EnglishThe group was born of a collaboration between the artists' associations "Granular" and "Gracia Territori Sonor".
This collaboration produces a concert at the "Goethe Institute of Lisbon" between the three elements that now make up the trio and the Catalan clarinetist Carola Ortiz. The concert took place in 24 of June, 2011 An internal and external evaluation of the artistic value of the concert was the engine for scheduling studio sessions between the three elements living in Portugal. The group recorded in October 2011. From a series of pieces recorded at the time came up the eleven that make up the group's debut album, released in September 2012 by the label Creative Sources. The album is called "Old school New school No school" The "Chagas Curado Viegas Wind Trio" is a group consisting of three very distinct musical personalities. If Paulo Curado is a musician who values impressionistic sound spot, Paulo Chagas can be more figurative and thorough. João Pedro Viegas works mainly as a structuralist, with an more abstract and textural language. While in the studio the group may have mainly experimentalistic interests, when gathered on stage its members intend to make these different approaches to wind instruments able to "speak the same language", combining the metal and the woden timbers. The multi-instrumentalist Chagas' functions here as a dilettante agitator, because Curado plays only metal instruments and Viegas the wooden ones. The first record of the group, "Old school, new school, No school", was released in September 2012 by the Creative Sources label and is currently being presented in concerts all over the country and abroad. As recently stated Carlos "Zingaro", in the liner notes of the debut album of the band, the Wind Trio plays music "Wherewe find"treacherous" idiomatic melodic phrases, surprisingly in extreme contrast with the extensive techniques and corresponding sound parasites of the other instruments in the background (if there is such a notion here...), building an adventurous and evolving structure." According to Carlos, "With this excelent trio's different themes, we are always faced with the transversal perfect mix of technical abbility and aesthetic research, where the so called improvisation is just a process as any other (...) Here we can find extreme instrumental virtuosity that perfectly knows how to avoid its common and usual minefields, through a continuous questioning of forms and processes." |
